Ask DST 362: Marvel!

Tags: , ,
It’s the week of SDCC, and Diamond Select Toys president DSTChuck is on his way to sunny San Diego, but before he left he finished up another edition of Ask DST, this one all about Marvel! While we kick off with a Marvel Gallery question, the rest are all Marvel Select, and everyone has characters they want to see. Read on to see if your question is answered, then submit it in the drop-down form above, or e-mail DSTChuck!

I just wanted to say that I have seen the new Marvel Gallery Phoenix figure and I love it!! I have been waiting for a figure like this for so long. Can’t wait to get it in September! I was wondering if there are any plans in the future for Dark Phoenix and White Phoenix variants? As a huge Jean Grey/Phoenix fan, I’d love to see all three Phoenix figures released. This would be a dream come true for me! Please consider making these figures. Thank you so much for reading this!

DSTChuck: Jason, glad to hear you are excited. Yes, the Dark Phoenix variant will be at SDCC this week. The White Phoenix is not currently planned, but never say never!

With the upcoming release of Netflix Daredevil in figure form, can we expect the rest of the Marvel Netflix characters to be getting their own Marvel Select figures (i.e.- Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Punisher and Iron Fist) in the near future? Thanks!

DSTChuck: Right now we are “wait and see” on more Marvel Select NetFlix figures, but we have not planned out all of 2018 yet.

With many incoming MCU movies with an excessive number of important characters, what will be the process of selection for each movie line?
Will we complete the full Avengers team or all the Guardians of the Galaxy members in the near future? I suppose characters such as Gamora, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Nick Fury, Nebula and the rest of the Defenders need a release but will they be produced or will we see, as always, more Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and Hulk figures?
In the case of GotG Vol. 2, how did you plan the release of the first two figures? Considering Yondu has great importance in the film, why do not consider his release? Is the limited number of releases per year the reason you can´t release more figures or is there a deep consumer study to ignore these characters?
Have you considered expanding the Marvel Select Line someday to complete the demand of characters of older movies that we are not going to see again?

DSTChuck: Oscar, I am sorry to say the Marvel movies are getting so deep into characters that there is no way we will ever be able to complete a team or movie. I think if POSSIBLE we would like to try and do characters that we have not done before, however when something like Hulk vs. Thor comes along in Thor: Ragnarok, we can’t pass it up. We have to start the figures LONG before the movie comes out, so it’s always tricky to pick up on exactly what fans will respond to.

Hi, is there any chance of any of these figures in the near future for the Marvel Select line?
1) 90s costume Rogue
2) Domino
3) Angela
4)Movie Scarlet Witch
5) Movie Vision

DSTChuck: Yes, one of those has a chance.

Rodney H.
Hey Chuck, just have a few questions that only you can answer. We have Thor Ragnarok about to drop, and within the last two years you guys have put out a few female selects such as Black Widow and Gamora. Is there a pretty good chance that we will be seeing our first ever Marvel Select Hela? Now, these last questions are just yes or no. Adam Warlock, Ms. Marvel, Sentry, new black suit Spider-Man since it’s been a while since the Web of Spider-Man figure with the humpback. An up to date version would be awesome! The female Thor, and Beta Ray Bill.

DSTChuck: Hela is not planned at this time. None of those are planned at this time, but we’ve barely started to plan 2018.

Any thoughts/plans to make a Marvel Select Adam Warlock??? He’s always been my favorite and now he’s possibly getting a movie role. Thanks!

DSTChuck: Ken, it has not really been considered up to this point.

Patrick J.
Can we expect a Marvel Select Apocalypse? Thank you!

DSTChuck: Never say never!

Blake J.
Hello, thank you for making consistently highly-detailed and high-quality figures! I have countless figures of yours and love every one, in particular the larger toys (Hulk, Juggernaut, Destroyer armor, etc.). I really do wish you would make an Apocalypse figure. He is at the top of my wish-list for figures to be made, and you are the company to make the perfectly-scaled and perfectly-detailed one. I am sure I’m not the only one asking for him. With your company having made some of the more “in-the-now” figures already this year (Lady Deadpool, Gwen, Netflix Deadpool, the whole GotG team), please let next year be more of a return to classics, Apocalypse heading that return, with Blob thrown in too! And if not a complete return to classics, at least please have Apocalypse as the classic figure of the year. Then next year please do Blob. Thank you for reading my request!

DSTChuck: Blake, I think it’s impossible to find the perfect balance between movie, TV, classic comic and current editorial, but we’ll keep trying.
